As of February 27, 2015, all new PBR-protected varieties are protected under the legislation that conforms to the UPOV 1991 convention, bringing Canada in line with the rest of the world.
The purpose of the database is to assist value chain stakeholders in easily identifying PBR protection for crop varieties registered for sale in Canada. The database is for general purposes only.
Every effort has been made to ensure the data is accurate, current and reliable. Please contact the Canadian Food Inspection’s Variety Registration Office or the Plant Breeders’ Rights Office with specific questions on variety registration and final verification of PBR status.

Please note: As of February 27, 2015, under the new Act, all varieties will be granted provisional protection. Once protection has been granted, UPOV‘91 trademark may be used and varieties will be fully protected under PBR 91.
